If there's a dispute at a fast-food restaurant, odds are good that someone is going to wind up throwing food. It happened a couple weeks ago at a McDonald's in Connecticut, and now we've had another incident at an Auntie Anne's pretzel shop in the Detroit suburb of Troy, Mich. According to the Detroit Free Press, a customer at an Auntie Anne's realized she'd received the incorrect dipping sauce for her pretzel. The dispute escalated, an employee flung nacho cheese at the angry customer, the customer vaulted the counter, and property damaged ensued. The company's president took to YouTube to apologize, and Detroit-area locations will be giving out free dip, which hopefully won't be thrown at anyone.

The American public's seemingly insatiable desire for lean protein in an "on-the-go" form will help General Mills going forward. They have a strong brand with the controlling acquisition of Yoplait, but have yet to parlay that brand recognition to rival Groupe Danone's (NASDAQOTH: DANOY ) Dannon brand, and privately held Chobani's lock on the "Greek Yogurt Craze." I'd encourage management to make this a priority; matter of fact, I'd consider this a microcosm of management's execution effectiveness. B&G Foods (BGS) released its third quarter results on Thursday after the closing bell.
The company reported earnings of 35 cents for the third quarter, slightly below analyst expectations of 40 cents. Revenues were reported at $181.4 million, below estimates of $184.83 million. From a year prior, B&G did see net sales increase 17.6%, though net income decreased 9.2% due to losses on extinguishment of debt, and acquisition-related transaction costs of $3.4 million.
Commenting on the company’s performance, CEO David L. Wenner stated “Our business saw continued strong growth in net sales, net income and adjusted EBITDA during the third quarter. Putting acquisition growth aside, our base business net sales followed industry trends and declined for the quarter. Given current trends in the packaged foods industry, we expect growth in our base business to be challenging during the fourth quarter of 2013.”
B&G Foods shares traded 0.43% higher during Thursday’s session. Year-to-date, the stock is up 26.59%.

John Chen, the second consecutive chief executive officer at BlackBerry (BBRY) to receive a bumper package, will have to help the embattled smartphone maker regain its footing and win back market share ceded to the likes of Apple's (AAPL) iPhone and a range of devices that run on Google's (GOOG) Android operating system. Chen was credited with turning around Sybase in the late 1990s. Sybase, an enterprise software company, was eventually acquired by SAP (SAP) in 2010. Chen's share awards only begin to vest after he completes three years with BlackBerry, and the majority of the options will vest only after he completes his fifth year, according to a regulatory filing late Thursday.
